How to make $593 in less than one hour

Instead of doing the normal Saturday afternoon Dot Com Pho at Pho Ba Co, I decided to head out of town with the family to try some Dot Com Camping. Now, I am not a camper. In fact, I think this only the second camping experience I ever had, and I got to tell you, I was really roughing it!

Our camp site was at Lake Casitas. This is an artificial lake in the Los Padres National Forest of Ventura County, California. It was created by the construction of Casitas Dam on Coyote Creek, two miles before it joins the Ventura River. The dam was built as part of the Ventura River Project. The project provides drinking water and water for irrigation. A secondary benefit is flood control.

Human contact with the water is prohibited since it is used for drinking water, but fishing, boating and camping are permitted. During the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, Lake Casitas hosted the canoeing and rowing events. The lake was used as the site for filming the scenes of Camp Greenlake in the 19th century in the 2003 film Holes.

While I felt I was roughing it with nature, the hardcore campers might say I wasn’t truly camping. They point to the fact that when you camp, you don’t tweet and you don’t have access to the Internet. While that may be true for normal camping, it’s not true for Dot Com Camping. Watch the video to find out how I can blog and camp at the same time. :P
